Tips and Tricks
Enterprise Manager®
With the release 12 of Enterprise Manager®, reporting has been simplified and the performance increased thanks to a new table design. It is now possible to integrate parts of the SAP BusinessObjects® CMS content into the Enterprise Manager® database. This makes it easier to report groups, users and universes.
It is now easy to run statistics by group of users from the CMS.
Display of not used Objects is also an easy task.
Users who never logged into SAP BusinessObjects® and other simple questions are now feasible with a single universe.
Currently the integration of the CMS Data is a manual process (we are working on an automation process for a future release)
Launch the Enterprise Manager® Server Setup.
In the integrator tab add one entry 11.5.x DB for XI Release 2 and 12.x for XI Release 3 multiple CMS systems can be added to integrate the different groups depending on the CMS.

Leave the upper part empty this is used to integrate the SAP BusinessObjects® auditing logs into the Enterprise Manager® database. Provide one admin user account for the CMS. Cluster ID is an Enterprise Manager® internal ID to differentiate between different CMS systems.
Do not activate the Integrate CMS Option. This would try to load it every minute. To manually integrate the CMS data follow this procedure for every CMS you wish to integrate.
In the tabs utilities/CMS Sync, check the information that you would like to integrate from the CMS and start it by pressing the Synchronize CMS button. This process can take some time as Enterprise Manager® will retrieve and analyze all the elements from SAP BusinessObjects using the SAP BusinessObjects AIP.

Version Manager®
Version Manager® allows since its inception the organization of documents, universes and other files in packages (folders). This organization is very useful for the administration of the permissions and the user view. However it happens frequently that when the system evolves one would like to publish a whole set of universes and reports in single lot. In early 2008 we have added the concept of a Version Manager® release to allow this flexibility.

Change the name. It is possible to add a description and to assign 2 statuses specific to the release. it is now possible to add specific releases (not files) to the release from within Version Manager® (drag and drop).

It is possible to add multiple version of the same file. The idea is to see the progress within the release and delivery. In this example, we see that we have a next version of the universe in development and the document is in user acceptance. Once the release is ready to be published it is important to have only 1 version of every file remaining in the release. If this is not the case Version Manager® may publish the wrong version of the file

As long as the version is active it appears inside the package and the active releases. Once completed it can be deactivated and it is only looked in release (inactive).
INFOBURST®
Infoburst® delivers default templates for the different delivery options, it is possible to customize these profiles. The templates are stored in C:Program FilesinfosolInfoburst.html_templates for the files to be customized copy the file into the subfolder custom. The files are html templates and can be edited with any html editor or text editor. It is very important to copy the files into the custom folder, if the Infoburst® software is updated the templates is remained.
360View®
With the XI platform one of the recurring questions are:
Who has the permissions on what SAP BusinessObjects application and what are their rights ? There is no simple answer to this question with the XI administrator and one must open every group and validate the application permissions. They have then to be written to an XLS file.
With 360View®, it is possible to see this on screen: 360View® security BOE applications. On this Matrix it is possible to make a single and multiple updates. The result can be exported to xls and validated by the users of project team.

A=advanced the other APP_ are profilesdefined in 360view®/CMS

Teleran®
Over time the Business intelligence applications and database are evolving and it is not easy to know what data is used or not and this by the BI tool(s), ETL or any other apllication or freehand SQL.
Teleran does audit the activity on the following database. This is done without impact on the database server performance. Teleran® acts like a Firewall on the database by "listening" or "active validation" to prevent different types of requests such as "give me all the lines from invoice table" these queries can be stopped before they are actually executed on the server. The user will receive a personalized message explaining why the request was rejected and what rule has been violated.
